Perfect Tree Review

Mac game Perfect Tree is a perfect game for the holiday season or any season for that matter for match 3 players. It has it all. 110 levels of amazing match 3 fun decorating the perfect tree, beautiful backgrounds and Christmasy music to entertain you in a happy and relaxing game for everyone.

For the match 3 levels you match the Santa hats, candy canes, chocolate cake, snowflakes, bells, snowmen and more holiday items to clear the board of the violet tiles. Match 3 or more of the same items to turn all the violet tiles to blue and the level will be complete. There will be chains, double chains, gold and other obstacles to hinder your match making skills, but there will also be dynamite, bombs and snow swirls to counteract those barriers and continue your fun. As the levels go higher the blocks will be bigger, however so will your helps.

Making matches will earn you stars and the stars will purchase the decorations for your perfect tree in the forest. If you have enough stars you can purchase bulbs, candy canes, bells, stars, garlands and presents. However, they will cost you a lot of stars so you must keep playing a lot to earn enough for the decorations. Luckily the play is very addictive with its smooth mechanics and pleasant music. You can even keep making matches while the board is still clearing tokens from your last match. For me that’s the most important match 3 feature.

The game has 2 modes for you to choose from: Timed and Relaxed. Having the 2 modes will open up the game to less experienced players and kids.

All of these features are a big plus for Perfect Tree; the ease of play, the gorgeous sceneries, Christmas like music, and the fun decorating the lone tree in the forest play. The only minus may be that one item you are having difficulties clearing in a match. You know the one thing stuck in a corner where 3 sides are surrounded and you can’t get to it to make a match. It would have been nice to have a power-up to get rid of that one item with a hammer. However, the play is so enjoyable, that doesn’t matter. Maybe on the sequel they can add that feature. Don’t wait for the holidays to play this entertaining game and have fun making matches and decorating a tree any time of the year.

Features of Perfect Tree:
-110 Levels of Fun Match 3s
-Power-ups and Bonuses
-Decorate the Tree with Ornaments

Jewel Quest II Review

jewel-quest-ii

Adventure, love, betrayal what more can you ask for in an exciting Mac game? In Jewel Quest II the saga continues in 1944 with Professor Rubert Pack. His heart is broken when Emma, his sweetheart, leaves him for the rich and dashing Sebastian Grenard. To forget his lost, he tries to enlist in the Navy but once again is rejected, this time because of his age. He signs up as engine staff on a cargo ship to southern Africa as his last ditch effort. He encounters adventure on the ship, safari, learns the history of Zimbabwe ruins, and comes across Victoria Falls. To move this story along, you must complete gem match levels within the time period and without losing your life.

The game starts with 5 lives, and when the time runs out, you lose 1 life and the level. Also you can lose a life if there are no more moves to be made. However 50,000 points will get you another life. To complete a level you must match 3 or more like icons or gems either horizontally or vertically by clicking or dragging one jewel to an adjacent square. These matched gems will disappear and the box will turn gold. Replacement jewels will fill from above filling the empty squares with more items. This part is similar to the first Jewel Quest.

Watch for the gold coins. If you are able to match 3 of these coins you are rewarded with a special move. Save these moves until you need them. Most of the special moves award you a free gold space, some uncover buried jewels and others will remove other items. To use it click on the special button located in the lower left side and then click on the space or jewels you wish to activate. There are only so many gold coins allowed on the game board so the extra ones will fall off the bottom of the field.

A new move is being able to move jewels into an empty space. This can help you strategically clear the game board. There appears to be more chain reactions that will give you higher points. If you complete the board before the time limit, you get bonus points based on how much time is left. Another new item, in addition to new gems and icons, is the buried jewel. It looks like a rock with some of the gem peeking through. To release the gem, you must make moves near the rock.

Jewel Quest II, like its predecessor Jewel Quest, has an extensive story line that can at times interfere with your game play. If you like this kind of interaction you’ll enjoy this game. I prefer to play the game more than read a story about a lovelorn old university professor. It was a little melodramatic, but if I remember correctly, so were the Indiana Jones movies that I enjoyed very much. I did like the challenging game play and the Victoria Falls background picture. The timed factor can get a little intense but is manageable. This is an enjoyable gem match game just like the first.

Features of Jewel Quest II:
-Story of Adventure, Love, Betrayal
-180 Puzzles and Boards
-9 new jewels and Power-Ups

Dress Up Pups Review

Mac game Dress Up Pups is a game for dog loving match 3 players. The dog background photos are so adorable even a cat person can appreciate them. As the title implies you dress up canines to impress your clientele.

Pattie is finally getting her break in the lucrative dog fashion business she has been working very hard in order to make it to the top of the industry. Bernard, her boss, is traveling to Italy to increase his business and expand his brand. Pattie is in charge of the store until he returns. She’ll need to prove herself if she wants to get a promotion. When a customer enters the agency, she talks to each person personally and determines what type of outfit will best suit the puppy.

You begin the game by choosing whether you want timed or relaxed play. The match 3 or more like items to destroy games are 3 types: swap where you can switch positions of 2 adjacent items so you can make a match of 3 or more of the same objects either horizontally or vertically. In chain you link the like items horizontally, vertically and diagonally. The group play is where the same items are touching and you click anywhere in the group to destroy. The group of objects will jiggle when you place your cursor over them.

To complete a match 3 level you must bring down the puzzle pieces on the board to the bottom of the screen by making matches below the piece. In addition you must clear the green tiles by making matches over the tiles. There will be your usual blocks and power ups. The blocks are the chained items where you must make matches with the object below the chain or blue tiles where you must make 2 matches before clearing the tile. The bonuses can be the dynamite, bombs and more where the item will blast tiles around them. The power ups must be charged before you can use them. To the left of the screen you see the power ups with an icon of one of the objects on the board. For example dog bone matches must be made until you fill up one of the power ups. These power ups can be very useful in completing your level. The hammer will destroy one tile that is giving you problems or the scissor will destroy all of one of a kind item. There are 21 dogs you must dress and each dog will have several levels to complete. Once a level is complete, you receive a couple of puzzle pieces to add to the photo of your dressed dog. After you have completed a few levels, you’ll have enough pieces to put together the jigsaw puzzle and see how the pup is dressed.

Dress Up Pup is a solid match 3 game with a side of jigsaw puzzles. The background photos of the puppies are charming, the artwork colorful and the music good. There isn’t anything unusual about the match 3 and there isn’t much of a story, but it is fun, relaxing if you play it untimed game. The timed version will give you a little more challenge. Casual match 3 players and dog lovers will enjoy this cute game.
