Paranormal Crime Investigations: Brotherhood of the Crescent Snake Collector’s Edition Review

A string of murders in the French Quarters in New Orleans, Louisiana does not sound very original since it’s been done before and it’s a mysterious place with many unusual stories, but throw in the death of the son of the palm reader who believes there’s more to it than what meets the eye, sightings of the paranormal kind and a weird cult trying to revive the Crescent Snake and you have a set up for an exciting Mac Hidden Object Adventure game.

Calvin Laveaux, student at Steinbeck University, is one of the many victims of a mysterious murder. He has a strange, glowing tattoo that may lead to some answers and possibly the killer or killers. His mother is convinced, and for good reason, there is dark magic behind his demise and she wants you to help investigate this case. You play as a Paranormal Crime Investigator brought in by the New Orleans police to help solve the case.

You search the streets of this famous town and when your cursor changes to a hand, you can interact with the object. If something glows or has a question mark on it, you can place it in the PCI, a case at the lower right of the screen, to analyze the item. Doing so you’ll come across a puzzle or mini game to solve like clicking on the correct color atom to fill vials to your left or match 2 identical objects. This case will also have information for you. The mini games are familiar and not difficult to complete, however, the hidden object games will take time to figure out where some of the items are placed due to size or partial hidden parts. The hint button is very useful in this game and it does recharge quickly. The items you need to find are listed at the bottom of the screen and the objects written in green will need some interaction before you can click on it. With the Collector’s Edition there is an in-game strategy guide to help you if you need it.

Your search will be hampered by a ghost-like figure that will place obstacles in your path and threaten you. Luckily, this will involve a puzzle to solve. You can skip the mini game if you choose after waiting only a short time, but I suggest you try them because most are easily solvable. Unfortunately this game is fairly short even with the bonus chapter. Depending on your expertise you can finish this game in a matter of hours with another hour for the extra bonus.

This is the first game that I’ve come across that asks you to keep the sound on during the game. There is no voice acting but the music is good. The artwork is fantastic with the wraithlike characters, voodoo items and quirky characters. There’s a lot of HOGs for fans of that type of play. I liked Paranormal Crime Investigations: Brotherhood of the Crescent Snake Collector’s Edition and gave it a 3.5 out of 5. However, can someone tell developers to shorten their titles?

Features of Paranormal Crime Investigations: Brotherhood of the Crescent Snake Collector’s Edition:
-Eerie Tale of the Supernatural
-Hidden Object and Mini Games
-Good Artwork and Music
-Collector’s Edition: Wallpaper, Sound Track, Bonus Chapter, Strategy Guide

Travels with Gulliver Review

Reading the famous novel by Jonathan Swift, traveling the world in a yacht with your literary friends and seeing the sights of other nations are only a few of the aspects of Mac match game Travels with Gulliver. There’s romance and mystery in addition to all that and to top it off the match 3 games, jigsaw puzzles and wallpaper.

Even with all those things going on at once, the game is relaxing and interesting. The main play is the match 3 of the same item in groups or chains to destroy the blue tile. This part of the game is not challenging but fun to do. The usual power ups and blocks are present in this game. The hammer will destroy one token, the torch will take out tokens of the same kind, the bomb will blow up a group of items and the scepter will turn all of the same kind of tokens to wild. There’s also a shuffle button when charged will redo the board. The blocks are the gates, ropes, the chained gates (you need to make double matches to clear) and the double ropes.

In between each match level you will get a couple of pages of the novel or the main character’s (Sedona) journal. The journal will reveal the interactions of the yacht’s literary group, and when personal items go missing, a mystery ensues. If those things are not enough, each port stop will reveal interesting data about the city with a jigsaw puzzle at each country. It’s also fun to see the passport book get travel stamps from their destination ports. The main page will have the journal, novel, postcards and passport to view when you need. The artwork will produce many wallpapers for your computer.

Travels with Gulliver is a creative Mac game, utilizing the novel to combine the present day adventures of a group of friends traveling the route of Gulliver. I found the mini jigsaw puzzles, repetitive and could use other mini plays to breakup the match games. A deficient part of the game, unfortunately, is the match 3 play. It really didn’t have a connection to either story except it is nautical. If the developers could work on that and make it a little more challenging and include a swap match, I think it will improve the game. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Features of Travels with Gullivers:
-80 Levels
-Story of Gulliver
-Mystery and Romance
-Wallpaper
-Jigsaw Puzzles

Murder, She Wrote Review

download Murder She Wrotebuy Murder She Wrote
Murder, She Wrote, a long running TV show during the 80’s and 90’s starring Angela Lansbury, is now a Mac hidden object game. It features Jessica Fletcher, a best-selling novelist living in Cabot Cove, Maine, who manages to stumble on many murder mysteries in that area and wherever she travels.

There are five books you can click on to discover a fascinating murder mystery of Jessica Fletcher’s. These stories will take you through many hidden object scenes for you to uncover the culprit. During your investigation you will meet Jessica, the sheriff and others who will be involved in each crime. Many of these characters are familiar to people who have watched the TV shows. I, unfortunately, have not seen one episode. I’ll have to look them up. These people will occasionally pop up during the HOG in order to further the story.

The HOG part of the story is your usual scene full of items to click on and discover. The list of typed items initially has letters missing from them and you will need to search the scene for the typewriter keys. The missing vowels will not hamper your search since you can easily make out what the words are without the letters, however finding the blanks is part of the fun. The hint button will replenish on its own, but to hurry along the wait, you can click on the typewriter cartridge to speed the process. All those who do not know what an old fashion typewriter cartridge looks like, it has 2 black wheels connected with black inked ribbon. Don’t click on it unless you need it or you will waste time.

Some of the items on the list is highlighted in blue and these things will need more than one step to complete. Also when you find multiple items of the same thing (ie: life jackets), you will need to drag it into another object to complete. Another item you may have to put together things is the plunger in order to use it. I found trying to use the plunger a little difficult because you need to hit exactly at the right spot in the sink to unclog it. There are other puzzles you must piece together or match buoys to their owners. Another mini game is the memory game where you uncover 2 items and you must make a match. If you do not make a correct match, the 2 objects will change places making you remember the switch on top of the item. At least this game challenged you a little more than the usual matching games.

I like Murder, She Wrote even though the HOG was easy to play whether timed or not. Maybe lately other HOGs have some items so obscured you will never recognize their identity, making finding all the items impossible. I found I didn’t need the hint button in any of the scenes which is unusual for me. I did use the button to test it out and found it to be clear and useful, especially if you need it to replenish in a hurry. The only complaint besides the plunger is that you keep going back to the same scenes. However, with the story it made sense to go back either to confront the witnesses again or find additional evidence.

The scenes are clear and colorful, the characters and their voices represented the actors well and the music from the show is light and enjoyable. Even though the HO and mini games are not difficult this Mac game is a pleasure to play and discover the answers to each mystery.

Features of Murder, She Wrote:
-5 Murder Mysteries
-Based on TV Show
-More Than 20 Environments

Miss Teri Tales 3-Danger Next Door Review

download-button-org7buy Miss Teri Tale 3
For all you Miss Teri Tales fans, and I’m one of them, there is a third sequel to the life and events of Miss Teri Tales who lives in that infamous place Peektown. Miss Teri Tales 3 – Danger Next Door is another great hidden object Mac game we have all grown to know and love. Now that Teri is mayor she is involved in all aspects of the town including another murder. This time it involves a new neighbor who just moved into Peektown. Norman Montgomery’s body is found in this new neighbor’s patio.

The play is a little different from the last 2 games. You no longer start in Teri’s office looking for help objects to assist your search. Now you go directly into the play speaking to various people in town. You are Miss Teri Tales looking for clues with Sheriff Allen. You speak to all the witnesses at the party the new neighbor, Mike Mickaelson, threw the night before. Everyone was there that night.

You begin by speaking to people who may have had a little too much to drink that night and their memory is a little foggy, if not down right bizarre. The hidden object scenes are filled with hallucinations and strange objects. The items are easily found and if you need a hint, it’s available for you but you need to wait to recharge. Recovered objects will be useful for actions in the scene and actions are written in yellow. Sometimes you have to combine objects to use. Some of the hidden object scenes are a montage of separate pictures with many items to search for in each one (comic strip). Others are in different parts of Mike’s house. Each witness will lead you to different people and places. There are mini games you must remember the name of the kidnapped dog in order to get into the town hall, you must collect 10 fingerprints and search for someone’s telephone number.

This third sequel continues with the familiar people and animals in this small town and is still very humorous for a murder mystery. The hidden object scenes are good and original with fun mini games. Drop in on the old neighborhood and find Monty’s killer.

Letters from Nowhere Review

Mac game Letters from Nowhere sets the scenes for an interesting search for a lot of stuff. In other words it is a good hidden object play. The story begins with Audrey being followed by a stranger on her way home. Once there she waits for her husband, Patrick, who does not show up. The police are unwilling or unable to help so she starts the investigation on her own. Not entirely on her own. She finds letters from nowhere and thus begins her adventure into the unknown. Who is writing these notes, are they from her husband and what is she getting herself into?

As mentioned before, there are a lot of cluttered HOG scenes with a few mini puzzles. The HOG scenes will have the list of items you need to find at the bottom of the screen. Some of the objects will have to be put together to cross off the list. For instance, doll is listed but you will need to find the head and body to put them together before it will be removed from the listed items. The hint button is the magnifying glass to the right of the list and recharges quickly, however, if you use it, you will be lose a lot of points. You’ll lose more points if you click on too many wrong items. The points are important since you can unlock bonuses with them. One such bonus is the thermometer. When you find the thermometer in a scene, it will register hot/cold when you are close or far from a listed object.

The few puzzles in this game are easy to do and not very challenging. There are jigsaw puzzles and memory games. If you do the mini games and not skip them, you will win a collective stamp. There’s a Trophy room for all the awards you win. In addition there are 3 stamps in each scene. If you find all 50 stamps, you unlock the Unlimited Mode at the end of the game.

Letters from Nowhere is a good solid HOG. Its not too easy and you may need to use the hint button, although it will cost you. However, it is not so hard that you will get frustrated. The artwork is good and the sound okay. The side games do not distract from the main play and the awards and stamps only add to the play. The story, however, did not engage me that much and the ending left you hanging. I guess that may be the whole point and you have to wait for the sequel. I give it a 3 out of 5 for all the scenes and objects.

Features of Letters from Nowhere:
-Good Hidden Object Plays
-Find the mystery of Patrick’s Disappearance
-Trophy Room and Stamp Awards
