Brunhilda and The Dark Crystal Review

A simple request from her aunt to pick up her purse in her apartment turns into a vast adventure in Mac hidden object game Brunhilda and the Dark Crystal. Brunhilda, not a particularly popular name in the United States, is of German origin and used more in Poland and areas near there. Brunhilda in this game is not like the stocky witch in the cartoon series. This Brunhilda is blonde, cute and brave. She calmly confronts the king of the rats and takes potions to shrink her size.

The story begins in a far away land where the dragons and men lived in harmony. This idyllic land is now in danger of inevitable doom. The magic they historically treasured will disappear forever if something is not done. The king ordered all magic to be stored in a dark crystal in hopes that some day a hero from another world will save them. This brings us back to Brunhilda a seemingly normal young woman doing her aunt a favor. She goes to the apartment and finds a demon that takes her to another realm. Gruber the demon will assist you in your adventure to find the broken shards of the dark crystal to restore the magic and fight off the evil.

The main play is to collect different objects usually at the request of someone you need to help you out. You can select from 2 modes. Casual has hints and skip buttons and they will recharge at normal speed. Objects of interest are highlighted. The Adventure mode the buttons take twice as long to recharge and rarely will objects be highlighted. The magical quest cards can be found at the bottom of the screen. It will give you the items you will need to find. To get into small spaces you must make a magic elixir to shrink Brunhilda to enter the rat door. Once small she encounters many rats who will do her a favor if she does one for them such as collecting all the fireworks in the village, get all the cheese, click on parts for a machine, get rid of all the rat traps and lots more. You may need to go back and forth from the rat village to the lobby of the building and back again. Luckily Brunhilda found a shortcut through the rat village to the king’s palace.

There are mini games you can play or skip such as catching drops of blue potion to make magic elixirs. Another is to pick out magical runes from a book. The mini puzzles do get progressively harder as the levels increase but you can skip them if you wish. However, skipping the puzzles will not unlock bonus mini games. The games involve telekinesis, alchemy, telepathy and wizardry. All the puzzles are related to the story and you are not aimlessly looking for a pizza cutter, battery or bowtie like some other HOGs.

There are 10 chapters to take you on an incredible adventure. You will meet many unusual things like dragons, part human part machine, rats that talk, birds, and much, much more. The story will unfold with Brunhilda talking to people or things that will help her in her quests. There are easter eggs to find so be sure to click on the fairies.

Brunhilda and the Dark Crystal is a different sort of HOG since you are finding things on quests, going back and forth through many rooms and areas and even shrinking down to mouse size. The story is intriguing even though it sounds like something you heard before but is presented in such a great way with the voice acting and gorgeous, detailed and creative artwork. The dialog between Brunhilda, Gruber and others are humorous and funny. The only thing I can say I thought was too much is the fact you have to go back and forth from one spot to another and back again. A small complaint considering the awesome job the developers did in this interesting and fun hidden object game with great details in their characters, words and story.

Features of Brunhilda and The Dark Crystals:
-Engaging Story
-Fantastic Artwork and Mysterious Music
-10 Chapters of Fun HOG Plays

Green Moon Review

To the moon, Alice! This Ralph Kramden threat is no longer impossible but very doable in Mac seek and find game Green Moon. You find yourself in an old, rickety deserted house in a desolate area. Slowly you search the uninhabited place going from room to room picking up items and combining objects to complete tasks. The most obvious one is the match and fireplace.

Once you get your sea legs, you search all the nook and crannies of this house. You find that this house once belonged to a magic person who no longer exists. You discover his book of spells and in this book, you are instructed to complete several tasks to advance in this game. Not only do you need to complete spells, but you travel through time to various locations and finally to the moon.

While searching you will pick up items to put in your inventory but will find that there are only so many slots. At this point you must discard something you may not need right away. Just remember where you left it because you will need it later. Some of the items will need to be combined to use in a location like the trap and cheese. The key from the clock will open the basement door leading to the book. There are no hints and your only clues and instructions come from the book and pieces of paper you find along the way. Some are quite cryptic but others can help you immensely. It can get frustrating trying to follow the minimal instructions in this game, but if you are up for a challenge, this play will give it to you.

There are mini games and you cannot skip them. In addition, you can die abruptly which is another obstacle to your search and a little annoying. Green Moon starts out slowly, but will pick up once you leave the house, complete spells and get used to some of the obscure instructions. The scenes are beautifully done and the music interesting. This game is difficult and challenging. It can be a great learning experience for new gamers, but they should stick to easier seek and find/point and click games initially to avoid frustrations. I give it a 3.5 for its interesting story, challenging play and nice artwork.

Features of Green Moon:
-Over 300 Locations
-Mini games
-Hours of Play

Eschalon Book 1 Review

Eschalon

Download EschalonBuy Eschalon

Looking for an exciting adventure in the medieval woods of fantasyland? Try playing Eschalon Book 1, an old time RPG, epic Mac game in the style of Wizardry, Ultima and Might & Magic. This game will draw you into their incredible world of monsters, mysteries and action.

The game begins with you awakening in a destroyed home somewhere in the woods. You have no memory of who you are, where you are , what is happening, and what happened to you to be in this state of confusion. In fact, you don’t even know there’s a current war going on all around you so you start looking around and walking to find and click on objects and notes to discover what happened.

Notes found from an unknown benefactor reveals that your situation is not accidental and you may have caused it on yourself? But, why? Your quest for answers will take you across many lands, down dark dungeons, up against enemies and combating missions assigned to you from various people or from  notes from your benefactor; some of which will take you away from your main quest and branch out into sub quests.

To play this game you click on items such as barrels, buckets, chests, wells to collect your inventory of  torches, ropes, potions, weapons, shields, and special rings. You also need to acquire points to get experience so you can level up to be a stronger person. Of course, there is the ever important red health potion you drink to regain your strength. To fight monsters and evil things you must continuously click to beat them off. Some of you may not like this form of fighting but get used to it because there are a lot of enemies and monsters to conquer.

You will need strategy, skill, magic and the right weapon to win in this game. So customizing the right character and skills are important. There are many options to choose from and it can get very confusing at the beginning.  Keep at it and you will figure everything out.  Your decisions will differ your play each time so you can get a lot of use out of this one game.

My main complaint about Eschalon book 1 is there are no female characters to choose from the list of male warriors. In addition, setting up the game and following the story line is somewhat confusing but by starting the play, you get the main gist and feel of the game. Otherwise, the game is your typical RPG story set in medieval times, finding needed items, and traveling through many different lands fighting dozens of monsters and enemies.

Anyone who is into RPG will enjoy the many hours it takes to play this fun game. You can’t go wrong with it so try playing Eschalon Book 1 and search for answers while experiencing action and adventure when you have a few hours to kill.

Features of Eschalon 1:
-Hours of game play
-Dozens of monsters
-Main and sub quests
-Hundreds of items

Elementals-The Magic Key Review

In Eiron there are magic and miracles when the earth, energy, and air come together in a primeval way. Elementals-The Magic Key brings the magic together in an intriguing story of wizards and evil sorcerers in a hidden object/seek and find Mac game.

Albert is an up and coming, young wizard who with the help of his valet, Fellion (Felly) finds that the wicked sorcerer, Sibelius, has taken his sister and the key of Eiron. He searches for clues in every room in the castle, starting from his own room and his sister’s bedroom. There’s been a struggle and you must pick up the pieces to solve the mystery. In each scene you do not look for random objects like other HOGs. The objects you look for are needed for tasks and clues. You may need to zoom in on areas in some rooms to find more clues.

In addition, you will need to battle creatures on a chessboard like scene to destroy them and gain entry into different locations. You take turns moving your men around the board. You need to move a man so he is in attacking range of the enemy. The squares will light up to show you the boundaries. Of course, moving forward one of your men will also expose that person to attacks by the enemy. When you line 3 of your men together, they will become 1 stronger soldier. Each time you enter the battlefield, it becomes more difficult.

Throughout the game you will encounter mini games and puzzles all pertaining to the story. Most of the side games are easy to play but if you wish to skip it, you may. You can also go back to it.

Some puzzles may take some time to figure out, but mostly this game moves along easily. The artwork is awesome with its creative creatures and details. The story is simple but still intriguing with Albert moving outside of the castle into the dark and mysterious forest. The tale peaked my interest and I am looking forward to the ending. Will he rescue his sister and the key of Eiron? Will the evil Sibelius be taken down? Find out by playing Elementals-The Magic Key.

Features of Elementals-The Magic Key:
-Daring Rescue
-Elemental Power
-Over 30 Puzzles and Mini Games
